Is there a how to on how to create the chip designs and place them in the software? If so, I'm sure a lot of people would be willing to create chips that others can use.
Thanks

Step 1: Get a copy of the source code
Step 2: Learn Java
Step 3: Roll your own code that creates your own chip design
...at least, until I make a "chip design" wizard. _________________ --

You give out the source?
If so, I'll implement the Ace/King Suited chip that I want. |

Any chance that you will open source your code? |

When Qwest stops charging me to NOT list my name in the phonebook, then I'll consider it.
$2.50 a month to not be listed. C'mon. I'm saving them ink! _________________ --

I hear ya - those bastards! Anyway they can make a buck. It's like when they charge you to take care of the wires inside your house? What? And remember when they used to charge you per extension in your house?
I still am trying to figure out why DirecTV charges you per receiver in your home. I mean, it costs the same for them to beam their crap to your dish whether one box is displaying it or two. Anyone else find that odd? There's gotta be a lawsuit there...
And while I'm at it, why doesn't McDonalds put napkins in the bag when you go through the drive through? I guess that's what the passenger seat is for - wiping your hands to get all the salt and grease off! Oooh!

They f**k you at the drive through! _________________ Oh, Yeah! Check out the all new TheMiddleClassBlog.com for all of us that aren't exactly "High Rollers"! |

Becuase then other people could come along and implement features and speed up the process of developing the software.
I help develop many open source projects and I am fully behind the open source movement - it works well. |

As a user of Open Source, I say thanks to the work you do on those projects.
But I think you are missing a point in this case...
Doc created this app, created out of nothing into the behemoth it is today, and Doc makes an ok penny from this app, am sure. He works hard on it, it's his baby, and he deserves every one of them pretty pennies he makes.
If, and only if, he ever decides he long longer wants to maintain the app, then I could see him Opening it up, but not a moment sooner. Neither would I, for what it's worth. |

One day, I hope tat we can all live in peace and harmony. Where everyone loves eveyone else, no matter what their beliefs are. And I hope that we learn to talk with the dolphins, because dolphins are cute. Bunnies and puppies are too! I hope we all wear white togas, to celebrate the beauty of each individual. And don't dare break any of the rules, because there is only one punishment - that is DEATH!
Poor Wesley...
Max
Oh, yeah, I hope that everyone opens up their codes so that we no longer have to pay for anything! Wouldn't that be swell? _________________ Oh, Yeah! Check out the all new TheMiddleClassBlog.com for all of us that aren't exactly "High Rollers"! |

I have become something of a crumudgeon, haven't I? But I still think dolphins and puppies are cute.

Oh yeh, I agree that the Doctorizer should do what he wants and not open source it if that's what he wants. I think there's benefits both ways. This way, he gets some cash out of it on a regular basis. If he open sourced it, he would get a lot of help I'm sure from the OS community, there currently is no open source tourney manager after all... yet. |

I'd read about an effort for one on chiptalk, but it apparently died on the vine. _________________ --

Just a (mainly) hypothetical question good Dr...
How much money in a lump sum would you consider as enough to change your software into a GPL (Open Source) project?
3D modeling software Blender for example had a donations system and a promise that when a certain amount was reached the software would become Open Source. It worked for them.
This wouldn't preclude you from making money from it after going Open Source, actually, you could sell access to these forums (at the same rate as we already pay for the enhanced program, I'm sure most of us would be happy to continue our paypal subscriptions) or charge the subscription for additional support and/or charge for your programming time for enhancements required of you by others (which you'd then also put into the GPL project for all of course)
You'll also find companies (like mine) which will be willing to donate free resources such as web hosting etc. to a good GPL cause.
Suddenly you would have access to a large number of helpers and programmers who would rapidly improve your software (not that I think it needs that much improvement, don't get me wrong), free up more of your time, but you still gain as much as everyone else and continue to get the subscriptions for support and forums etc as the software author.
Depending on your personal life outlook (and current level of achievement) you might find your software also gets even more widely acknowledged and used and you achieve even greater fame and more programming / job offers etc. This can appeal to some people, and why not?
Thanks,
Jake. |
