|
|
Hey all, I'm trying to convert my league scoring method from Excel into Dr Neau and am having trouble. I think I'm close, but can't quite get it right. Can anyone help?
Here is my scoring method:
10 x (((Sqrt A) / (Sqrt B)) x (1 + (Sqrt C) - (B x 5))) + (10 x D)
A = Tournament Buy-in Count
B = Player Finish
C = Player Buy=in Cost
D = Player Knockout Count
For reference, using this method, last February, we had a tournament with 32 players, $60 buy-in, 1st place had 5 knockouts and earned 540 points.
I would post a picture or include the repository file of what I have so far in the software for reference, but I don't know how to do that on this bulletin board.
Any help that anyone can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Anybody? I'd really appreciate some help if anyone is generous enough.
Thanks

G'day Kurt. There's not a lot of activity here any more but I still check in every so often to see if there's any news on updates, particularly the multiple tourneys at once option.
I had a look at your formula in excel and TM and I must have the order of operations wrong because I get 261.9 in TM and 226.9 in excel. Can you post some more info about your excel formula and I'll have a go in TM for you _________________ -- Kingaroy High Rollers Poker Tour -- |

Thanks a bunch, rumackay. I really appreciate someone else giving this a shot. I'd attach the Dr Neau file with my attempt at the scoring method, but I don't know how to do that on this bulletin board.
We had our first tournament of the season last night and everyone was asking about their points, and I didn't have an answer for them. Worst case scenario, I use the manual method and still put the results in my spreadsheet and transfer the points manually, though that does defeat one large portion of Dr. Neau...
Here is my formula copied from Excel.
(10*(((SQRT(B4))/(SQRT(A7)))*(1+(SQRT(F2)))),0)-(A7*5))+10
A7 = Player Finish
B4 = Number of Players in Tournament
F2 = Buy-in cost
I added the 10 points at the end because we decided to award the bottom 1/3 with 10 points for playing, rather than 0 points. Top 2/3 will receive points based on the formula.
Our tournament last night had 23 players, $60 buy-in, 1st place had 5 knockouts and I calculate that he received 475 points. |

That's a little different from the first formula you posted
That formula as copied and pasted returns an error. If it's "=round" there seems to be some brackets out of place. If I take a guess and remove a bracket at the end it calculated 424
Can you take a screen shot of the formula and post it here so I can take a look
Don't worry about the TM file. If we get the excel formula sorted I should be able to convert that to a TM scoring method for you easy enough _________________ -- Kingaroy High Rollers Poker Tour -- |

You are correct sir. I copied only part of the formula from Excel. Guess I missed some key parts. Here is the entire formula.
=IF(A7<=(B4*(2/3)),(ROUNDUP(10*(((SQRT(B4))/(SQRT(A7)))*(1+(SQRT(F2)))),0)-(A7*5))+10,(10))
I believe your formula is correct, because if you add 10 points per knockout, you'd have 474, then the remaining point may just be a rounding issue. I tally the knockouts in a different column, then add the two to get the total tournament score.
If you want to private message me your email, I will send you my TM file as well as a screen shot or whatever else you think may be helpful, since I can't link an image here.
Thanks again. |

Cheers mate. I'll have a play around with it and see how I go. It's a shame there's not much happening in here anymore because a few of the old regulars were great at scoring formulas. But we'll give it a shot _________________ -- Kingaroy High Rollers Poker Tour -- |

Ok, I finally had some time this evening so I sat down and I think I have it working, knockouts included:

If copy/paste into a new file in the scoring folder of your repository doesn't work then PM your email and I'll send you the file. I think save as xml, is that right Doc? _________________ -- Kingaroy High Rollers Poker Tour -- |

You are a genius. I owe you a beer. I just gave it a shot with some of the old results from last year and everything seems to work. It may be a point off due to rounding, but I am not at all worried about that. Close enough for government work.
Thank you so much for lending a hand, rumackay. I really do appreciate your help! |
