It would be nice if there is an additional option at the blind settings to pause the tournament before a level starts.
That would be nice so you can change the chips out when needed. (When you do the @ the end you wont see the message in the console).
A setting you can select somewhere, to check for this would work fine. |

Why not use a short break segment to "color-up"? |

You use a remote to open your car?
Why do things manual if you can automate it? |

Then click the little check box that stops the clock between blind levels. |

Creating a break segment is automating it. And it allows you to set the duration of the break, which your proposal (unless I'm not understanding it) would not. So it's greater functionality, with almost no penalty in terms of extra work (Click button to create break, set duration; instead of click checkbox to stop clock between levels) |

Actually, I see little use in adding the "pause at beginning"...
Why?
- We only chip-up on breaks.
- If you want to chip-up during play segments, you have the ability to add the chip consolidation widget to your console.
- If neither of these options work, just add a 1-2 minute break segment for chipping up, as suggested.
- If you DO want to chip-up during a play segment, it can be done either by simply stopping the clock or just chipping up while you play (which is what they do in real tournaments anyhow...have 1 player at the table buy up all the low chips and then buy them from her) _________________ --

I have a 10 minute break after Level four when the blinds go from 20/40 to 25/50 and have all the time I need to consolidate, and all players have a chance to do the essentials. We then break again when the greens are obsolete and have no problem coloring up... |

What we do is swap out the chips right before the level that they are not needed anymore. Happens about 4 times during a small tournament (up to 20 players) and gives the players a small break.
It takes about 5 minutes to do (if everyone cooperates and stacks their own chips)
By doing a pause at the beginning of a level, the display will show the chip changeup, and continue when you start the timer.
Yes, you can use break segments for this, but when you do that, you will have the 'break in : ' stating the small break, instead of a real break.
And what the good Dr. is saying,
Quote: | If you DO want to chip-up during a play segment, it can be done either by simply stopping the clock or just chipping up while you play (which is what they do in real tournaments anyhow...have 1 player at the table buy up all the low chips and then buy them from her) |
So if that's what they do in real tournaments,
Instead of stopping the clock manually, the program could stop the clock for the changeup, and yell something by a wave file, like 'time to change up the chips, stack'm in 10's please'. Could simply be one setting in the setup blinds screen (not per level). That way everybody doesn't have to create the break levels by themselves to changeup. The program has made the room to do this.
So again, if real tournaments do it like that, why shouldn't the program have this option available as a simple checkbox?[/quote] |

This honestly looks like over-automation to me (which may sound surprising coming from me)
In reality...if a chip consolidation comes up during a play segment, someone sees the message on the screen that says, "Remove Red and below". They look down, see they have Red chips, and say, "Hey Marco!! I've got Red chips". You pause the clock, swap the chips and restart the clock.
Or, you just keep playing and let someone who's been ejected help swap chips out.
Or, you only chip-up on breaks.
Since there are now at least 4 different ways to do it, I can safely say I won't be adding "pause at beginning". There are much bigger fish to fry.[/b] _________________ --

In "real" tournements the chips are "colored up" during a break which usually is every hour or so. The blind schedules are such that the breaks coincide with an appropriate time to chip up |

The 660 player tournament I played at worked like this...
5 minutes before break, announcer says, "Dealers, we are removing the red chips at the next break. Have one player at the table buy all the red chips"
Dealer has one player buy all the chips.
When break starts, dealer buys chips and then does the odd chip trick. _________________ --

We use racks, which you all know hold 20 chips in a row, so the rack do the counting for you...Damn, we're lazy!!! |

I wish I had read a little further before posting...I like the idea of one player buying all the chips. I'm assuming it would be the chip leader of that table. |
