I noticed that I had accidently made two player entries for the same player in my league. One was listed as "David" and the other was listed as "Dave." I don't see a combine players feature in v 3.0 like the one that existed in 2.0, so I decided to simply delete Dave. I got a message telling me that I couldn't delete Dave because he was associated with the SNPL September 2008 tourney. So I decided to simply delete the September tourney, and then re-run it with Dave correctly ID'd as David. When I tried to delete Dave after deleting the September tourney, I still received an error message because Dave was still associated with the September tourney.

After I shut down and re-started the application, I was able to delete Dave so my guess is that the associations do not refresh until the application opens or closes.

Should be able to reproduce that.

I'll add merging players to the enhancement list, but it'll be a low priority...in v2, you added players straight to a tournament and the player database was really this optional entity. In v3, the database is an essential part of the tournament. Still, I can see where someone could easily forget they've added someone already.

I had a similar problem and deleted the tourney log that referenced a player I had trouble deleting. If I have a similar problem in the future deleting a player and I use the same remedy, does that mean that I should clear my tourney log after every tourney? I don't run a league, so I really don't check the logs regularly.

Well, the original problem reported in this tourney was that he still couldn't delete the player even though the tourney no longer referenced that player.

That was fixed.

Now, if you're saying you want to delete a player from your database that is used in a tourney...that's not a problem...that's the way the application is designed intentionally. That's a safeguard to prevent you from screwing yourself over. Wink

Now, I'll ask why you need to even delete the player in the first place.

One of the regulars brought his girlfriend to our game. She wanted to play so I added her to the database. As it turns out, he replaced her with a newer model with no chance of a recall on the old one. Anyway, she's the only player that I've had to 86. I couldn't delete her initially until I researched this thread. Great advice as usual. Thanks.

But why do you *need* to delete her? Why not just keep her there?

Ack! Semantics! My bad. My parlance needs work. I did not *need* to delete the player, I *wanted* to delete her. Her name is Ada Poy. It was messing with the feng shui of my database. Please don't tell KC about my "logic" or lack thereof. Wink
