I'm writing the help page for the "Console Map" and would like your feedback since it is a potentially confusing topic. Please read and rip:
(don't comment on the format...it's tough to make it look good on here)
The Console Layout Map
The Console Layout Map helps you define which console layouts will be used throughout your tournament.
Rather than associating levels of your betting schedule directly to console layouts, you associate them to a "map". That map then defines which layouts are used.
You can do it in three easy steps:
Step 1: Associate console layouts with "maps".
Step 2: Associate your tournament with this console theme.
Step 3: (optional) Associate each level with one of the "maps".
Examples
Example 1: Simple Hold'em tournament
Step 1:
Select the "Play" map and choose the console you want to display while people are playing. Select the "Break" map and choose the console you want to display while people are on break.
Step 2:
Associate your tournament with this console theme.
Step 3:
-- not required --
Example 2: HORSE tournament
Step 1:
Select the "C1" map and choose the console that should be displayed during Hold'em levels.
Select the "C2" map and choose the console that should be displayed during Omaha levels.
Select the "C3" map and choose the console that should be displayed during Razz levels.
Select the "C4" map and choose the console that should be displayed during Stud levels.
Select the "C5" map and choose the console that should be displayed during Stud H/L levels.
Step 2:
Associate your tournament with this console theme
Step 3:
Edit the betting schedule to have each "Hold'em" level use "C1".
Edit the betting schedule to have each "Omaha" level use "C2".
Edit the betting schedule to have each "Razz" level use "C3".
Edit the betting schedule to have each "Stud" level use "C4".
Edit the betting schedule to have each "Stud H/L" level use "C5".
Quote: | QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS |
Q: Why can't you just select the console layouts directly from your tournament? What's the value of doing it this way?
A1: This makes it easier to change what layouts are used on different levels. Let's say you told each even-numbered level on your betting schedule to use the layout called "EvenLevel1". Now you want to change it to "EvenLevel2"... If the blind schedule we related directly to the console layouts, you'd have to change *every* level, one at a time. With this mechanism, you might associate every even level to "C1" and every odd level to "C2". Now, if you change your mind about which layout to use, you just need to update the map below to use a different layout for "C1"
A2: This separates the "look and feel" (the console theme) from the tournament. To get a different look and feel for a tournament, you just tell that tournament to use a different theme and the betting schedule picks up the changes automatically.
A3: This keeps the betting schedule cleaner...especially when it comes to multiple console layouts per level.
A4: This makes it easier to copy betting schedules from one repository to another without worry about the layout names having to be valid.
Q: What do "Pre", "Play", "Break" and "Post" mean?
A: These are default maps. Each segment on your betting schedule falls into one of the four categories: - Pre-schedule segment - Play segment - Break segement - Post-schedule segment If you do nothing with your betting schedule (if you don't specify which map a segment should use), then each segment will default to the console map for its type.
Q: What if my betting schedule references a map for which I haven't associated any layouts? What if the betting schedule uses the default maps and I haven't associated layouts to the default maps?
A: Then the core layouts supplied with the application will be used.
Q: What are "C1" through "C<X>"?
A: Those are custom maps. Unlike the default maps, they aren't used by a level on the betting schedule unless you specifically tell the level to use them.
Q: Can I associate multiple layouts with a map? What happens if I do that?
A: Yes you can. If you associate multiple layouts with a map, then the app will periodically switch between layouts for you using the "rotation delay" you've specified with that console theme. _________________ --
