I hold my tournaments in the rear of the house in the converted detached garage slash workroom slash playroom. As such, I started calling it "Poker in the Rear". Once I got this software, I decided to make a console to match, and used some classic 50s pinup art. I swear I'm not a mysoginistic asshole. Smile

Here's a shot of the play screen. The other screens have different images and slightly modified layout (and the rankings show during the breaks and at the end), but those didn't capture properly, so oh well. I also do custom graphics for evites to match.

I went for a bit of style over substance. It's a bit hard to see what the next round is, for example. I'll probably re-vamp it entirely once this league season is over (whenever I decide that to be).

Love the software! The customization is a bit clunky, but far more than I ever expected, and quite nice and smartly done in most regards. Looking forward to the next revision, from what I've read on all the changes.

-p.

Holy crap.

That's the nicest looking console I've ever seen.

I found a good way to save screen space on my console: Buy Paulson James Bond chips with denominations! Smile

Fab Console.

And perspicacious choice of Operating System, too.

Yes, mac makes a difference... btw, have you tried the networking? us mac users can't get that to work. Sad

Mad props on the console. I think I need to find a cheap projector because w/ 2-3 tables, my laptop screen isn't big enough. Sad

Thankee, thankee. I did do networking once, over the wifi to a PC Laptop. It worked splendidly until late in the game when it all locked up, and I didn't realize there was a "save" option. Whoops.

Haven't gotten it to work since then. It'll sometimes connect for a while, even getting the custom consoles, but then drop out. Hard to say where the fault is, as our network is a little flakey.

Yeah, I've been thinking of a cheap projector myself. I hear Radio Shack has 'em for a steal. But so far it hasn't been a problem. People are used to it by now, and will just every now and again ask about the time. In fact, nobody even really sees the console, but that's okay, it was fun making it. Smile

Doc, I'm beginning to think some tinkering with network will need to be done in V3 - I had a terrible time networking a few weeks back - It would connect, but the client side console wouldn't refresh, and eventually, my server side locked up! Luckily I was testing it at the time, so no damge done... Just a thought

Pfapfap - My god that is a gorgeous console! In fact, I think Doc should give you some sort of award for it... It is truly awesome!

Yup. Networking will be improved. It's weird. Some people never have a problem with v2...others just can't get it working. One thing I need to do is make the client auto-reconnect when the connection drops.

Pfappy, I'm trying to figure out the configuration of that console...is the chick a background image or is she in an image component...and if she's in an image component how did she reach out into the title component like that?

And the "aught". I love the "aught". Is that just a label or is it a formatted date field?

I never thought about trying it... but could it be done the same way some websites do it with tables and images?

As long as there is no space between the component fields it could be done... with the part of her arm from about mid-forearm down being an image in the title field

Of course if there IS space between fields... then that whole theory goes out the window. Very Happy

Glad to have the consoles appreciated by those who know what go into it. I'm eternally flattered.

The woman is part of a background image, with transparent titles and the like.

As to the date, that's the game type (or whatever field). Everyone knows the game type, so I put other info there.

Just had another ragingly successful tournament tonight, and folks commented again on the spiffiness of the software. They're always intrigued when I switch windows to break tables or eliminate players or whatever else. But I tell ya, playing while running the thing is tiring. Not only do I have to keep up with rebuys and eliminations, I'm dealing at my table, and on breaks I have to do things like split up the prizes, consolidate chips, etc. Whew!

Okay, here are the other console parts. Not as slick as the main game one, sadly, but if the multiple editing at once is to be believed for v3, I'll be all over it. I figure I'll run this league 'til the new year, then start fresh with points and a new design. A lot of stuff could be better. The rankings are hard to read as once (y'know, being able to have a two or three column field for who's placed where would be great... not even scrolling, just cut off the bottom folk if there's not enough room). And frankly just too much dead space on the top and side. Next time through I'll go searching for fonts and better utilize space. Still have dead space, of course, but more efficiently. Also buy a cheap projector.

(Oh, and I know 2nd wouldn't tie like that. I loaded up the finished tourney and deleted one event too many, so I just did double elimination. By the time I realized how it read, I'd already captured and converted and closed the tourney. Ahh, laziness.)

What do you mean multiple editing at once?

You mean editing multiple components at once? You can do that now. Just CNTL-click the components you want, hit "design" and it asks you which property you want to edit.

Pete Pete Pete. That's old school.

Edit the console and you should see a "background image" selector right on the screen.

fappy has inspired me to make special consoles for tomorrow night's Halloween tournament.

And remember, with v3:
- Console editing will be easier
- You'll be able to more easily export a "console theme" that you can share with others.

I think what he means about 'multiple editing' is that right now, when you ctrl-click each component you want to edit, you can then only edit 1 paramater (border-top color for example). Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought v3 was going to let us edit all parameters at once that each component has in common.

If you wanted to put a border around all 4 sides of multiple components, and change the width of that border, then it takes a lot of clicks. I, for one, would like to be able to select every component I want a border around, then hit 'design' and then be able to add the border to all 4 sides, choose the color and the width without leaving that design window.

Make sense?

Where? I see how to set the background colour, but don't see any ref. to background image.

Where do I go?

PS Doc - there's a TV/movie critic who has a number of interesting Deadwood articles on his blog. If you're interested go to http://mattzollerseitz.blogspot.com

Let me know if you find any good fonts for that purpose, Doc, if you don't f*cking mind.
