So I'm looking for something to do to kill time at work and thought of a new project. Granted we only play once a month but any file that gets too large is a bad thing. I want to export the League.drnl file into a mySQL database and then use a modified version of my PHP script to export the league standings.
Now the hard part (once again): I need help designing the structure of the databse. I currently know very little about SQL (I think I can figure most of it out) but the main problem comes from the XML file. The good doctor's XML file is quite complex compared to most "examples" on the interweb. I need to figure out how to structure the database with all the links to each game, player, knockout, rebuy... etc.
Now that I think about it, maybe I'll start in Access, get my structure worked out, then move it to SQL.
So, anyone know how to move XML into Access?
On a side note, I'm fairly broke at the moment (Divorce, Selling House... etc.). Has any of this already changed in version 3? I might chip in a few bucks to play around with it, but I would like to know what features have been added before I buy. _________________ <thwack> NOooooooBODY expects to lose to Rewind!

I wouldn't waste too much time on it in v2.
v3 is going to have an "export file" which will export the tournament/league data in an XML form that is much easier for others to work with...so you won't have to parse the history log to figure out who did what. _________________ --

Easier XML is nice. Will there be a conversion of old files to new? (load them into v3 and re-save them?)
I'm expecting a check in the mail... maybe I can afford to play around with the new version for a few months. If nothing else, I can use my 3% raise that I will get at the end of October to get a new license. _________________ <thwack> NOooooooBODY expects to lose to Rewind!

If you do decide to do this with V2, I would probably suggest reading the XML using an XML Doc, then parse the individual nodes and elements, then use that to write to SQL...not the most effecient way to do it, but fairly easy and stright forward. |

I met the webmaster of this site. Pretty sweet site for all the players of a league to see their stats, etc. He's working w/ TD to have each tourney update his database. I have a mac, and like this software better anyway, so I'm hoping v3 will allow better integration for things like populating an SQL database. (I sound smart there, don't I? Hopefully I got you all fooled that I know what the hell that means!).
Can't wait for V3!!!!
See my league of leagues post.
