v3 is going to let you manage different types of tournaments. So far, I've identified:
- Standard (what everyone is used to)
- Shoot-out (like they do on Celebrity Poker Showdown)
- Single-elimination heads-up
- Double-elimination heads-up
I'm making the app so it'll be able to handle other types in the future.
Can you think of any others? _________________ --

Well there is always the bounty type of tournaments but that is more related to payout distribution... |

You are correct. I don't know the term I'm looking for, but something like "structures".
Bounty is something you could slap on top of any of these as an option. _________________ --

This may be what you would consider a "shootout" struture, but I have played in tourneys where there were not enough tables to handle the number of players, so the first group plays down to a certain number of players, then the second group follows suit etc, until you wind up back with one group. _________________ Lifes too short to play with cheap chips |

You mean like the main event at the WSOP? _________________ --

Yep, exactly. I have 4 tables for 32 players but we had 60+ sign up for our chamionship. I accomodated by creating two different tournements with each playing down to two tables, then a third tourney for the combination of the two.
Created alot of head scratching about how the league scoring would work but thats a whole different story...... _________________ Lifes too short to play with cheap chips |

I've always wondered how the 'alternates' worked in the WSOP. The only other thing I can think of is a double elminination tourney, like the Monte Carlo tourney was- all those who bust out before the final table, play a second tourney, and the winner joins the final table. |

5th Street used to do alternates in his tournaments.
If he has room for 32 and 34 want to play, the extra 2 wait until people bust out before they buy in and take their place. _________________ --

Alot of casinos do this to sweeten the prize pool (and entry fee I suppose). I played a tourney once in Iowa and over 20 people had busted out before the first break but every seat was still full from the reserve pool.
Another wierd concept I have seen in league play is the "team" concept. Sometimes you know your team mates, sometimes it's a blind draw, and afterwards the team with the most knockouts or prize money etc shares in an alternate prize pool.
Kind of like putt putt golf to me.... _________________ Lifes too short to play with cheap chips |

Anyhow, you can manage this in the software now. _________________ --

how about satellite tourneys where the are equal payouts for top 2 or 3 or 4 players. i tried it out where i made the top 2 spots pay out the identical prize. i thought the tourney would end when there were 2 players left, but it didn't...it continued on even though the top 2 players got the same prize. i had to manually stop the tourney. (i guess this would be similar to a shootout structure, except there are multiple identical prizes)
if that's doable, maybe step it up further by allowing the app to automatically calculate how many identical prizes (or satellite entries into other tourneys) based on the total buyins. e.g. let's say i want to pay out $120 prizes (which will be entries into another tournament); the app would then calculate how many prizes to pay out depending on how many buy ins are taken... then the left over would be the last payout.
i recently tried a bounty tourney where the top prize went to the player with the most knockouts...but i couldn't figure out how to do that, so i had to pay out that prize manually. |

Hmm. While that is a "satellite", it should really be an option in what I call a "standard" tournament:
- Stop the tournament when X players remain.
Separate from that is the payout structure and how it is generated.
Hmmm... _________________ --
