|
|
Alright, I'm finalizing the alert mechanism for v3 and wanted to bounce it off anyone who cares for feedback.
For all alerts, you'll be able to specify:
- Where the message appears (server only, clients only or all)
- Duration of message (how long to keep it on the console once displayed)
- Where the audio should be played (server only, clients only or all)
- Which audio clip(s) to play, if any (yes, multiple...if you select multiple it will pick one randomly)
- Priority for alert (Immediate, Next or End of Queue) - This comes into play if someone rebuys right as the level changes and then you stop the timer. Which message should appear? Should the message wait their turn? Are some message so important that they should appear immediately? You decide.
Alerts for v3 break down into two categories:
Category 1: Simple alerts
Break started
Elimination (First Player Out)
Elimination (General)
Elimination (In the Money)
Elimination (On the Bubble)
New Blind Level Started
Player Added On
Player Bought In
Player Rebought
Timer Started
Timer Stopped
Tournament Started
Tournament Ended
Category 2: Time-based alerts
Time-based alerts are of four types:
- Time to start of tournament
- Time to end of round
- Time to end of break
- Time to start of break
You can create MULTIPLE of each of these, if you want. So, in v3, you could create an alert for 10 minutes to end of break, another for 5, another for 3, etc. etc. And each one could have a different audio.
Now: Can you think of any other alert types that would be nice to have. _________________ --

Funny you should mention that.
With the streaming of audios and images from files (rather than memory), I'm now considering letting you associate an audio AND an image with each player.
Then, when someone is knocked out, you could display their picture and play their audio.
Or, play the audio of the person who eliminated them. _________________ --

Would the "In the money" elimination have a possibility of displaying the amount won along with the rest of the on-screen info? _________________ - Dix |

Yeah, and what if I did this too?
Player audios and images are in, baby.
With the console theme, you'll have the ability to configure the following:
When a player is eliminated:
- Play the audio of the "eliminators"
- Play the audio of the "eliminatees"
- Play the default audio for that elimination
Along with that, you will probably be able to display the image of the eliminatee.
I might end up going really crazy with images now that I've got them tamed.
What would you want to do with images if you could?
- Display them on the seating chart?
- Have a component on the screen that shows the avatar of the current chip leader at all times?
- Have a component on the screen that shows the avatar of the player last eliminated at all times?
- Display avatars in the tournament finishes? League standings?
The possibilities are freakin' endless. But, I want to focus on the ones that will make your tournament more functional and fun. _________________ --

How about an alert sound when a table balance or consolidation is needed? I sometimes turn away as I hit the "eliminator" button and don't notice the tables need balanced until I go back to the table, sit down and see the message on the screen.
As for image use...
I use a scrolling marque with the eliminated players names with their finish place moving accross the screen. Maybe their pic could move across. It would be funny if I could get a pic of them pouting or something to use when it happens. |

Would it be possible to set-up alerts that would also cause the clock to pause? For example, we pause the clock when a table consolidation is needed. Would it be possible to set an alert that was triggered by the need for a table consolidation and include a "pause clock" option?
BTW, very cool mechanism for assigning images and sounds to specific players. Including a player image potentially opens up a lot of new possibilities: For example,
Will we be able to set up an end of game console screen that displays the winner's image?
Or a banner at the bottom of the screen that shows the image for all remaining (or eliminated) players?
Or an overlay that displays table assignments by showing the player's image?
You could even make a cool elimination overlay display that shows the image of the eliminator together with an image of the eliminated player with a "no smoking" type strikeout image over the picture of the eliminated player.
Lots of new possibilities here. |

There was a topic about a different sound (not randomly) for each new blind. Is this possible now? |

I'm doing that also.
My initial concern was the amount of memory required if you had a different audio for each level and a different image for each person, but now that I'm streaming audios and images from files on demand that's not a problem.
The audios will be associated to the betting schedule via an "audio map". Please read the page for the "Console Map" for an explanation of the concept: http://www.drneau.com/BB/viewtopic.php?p=5023#5023 _________________ --

Of course, I myself don't see the need for a table consolidation or table balance alert...but there's no reason I can't create them and give you the option.
And adding pause-clock options to all alerts. Yes. _________________ --

Hello Doctor.
I mentioned this earlier in another thread.
It would be cool if an alert could pop up when a player is moved!
I'm hosting MTT's with tables in different rooms.
It would be awesome if the players would be able to see when they are moved.
Thanks |

would it be possible to set up an audio/text alert to appear at random times during the tournament? Let's say an alert of when the next tournament is on, reminding players food and drink is available at the bar, etc?
Could be at random times of certain levels if easier than doing at random times of the whole tournament. |

Worked on alerts last night.
Updates:
- "Audio location" and "Message location" attributes are gone. Now, if an alert exists, it just has an "Active" property that you can set.
There are now 5 types of time-based alerts:
"Time to Start of Play" - Fires X seconds before the first play level.
"Time to End of Play" - Fires X seconds before the end of the last play level. (probably rarely used)
"Time to Start of Break" - Fires X seconds before a break begins.
"Time to End of Break" - Fires X seconds before the end of a break...and only fires if the current segment is a break.
"Time to Next Level" - Fires X seconds before the end of a play segment...and only fires if the next segment is also a play segment.
Those last two are new, in case it isn't obvious.
Also, random audios are tested and working great. _________________ --
