I know that this should be easy, but i just can't see the option.

I want to set a background image, with the number etc laid over the top of it. I've seen it done in a bunch of examples, but can't figure it out for myself.

Help?

Edit : OK so getting the latest version always helps. Embarassed

Yep, fixed.

Adding a big background image seems to make the design interface run like a dog. Normal?

Pretty much. Happened to me with too many or too large images.

Sometimes the images just won't load at all, and the clock slows down.

make sure it's not an animated gif

resize your jpeg/non-animated gif to exactly fit the window. i found those tips helped me greatly
