Background Pix won't load

When I load them in the designer, they show up just fine. I can see them in the thumbnail of the interface console, but when I bring the main screen to the front, I just see my default background color.

HELP!

I'm attempting to use a fairly small (150K) jpg as a BG image. the consoles also have 1 other gfx, another fairly small 150k image. Am I overloading redraw resources?

running iBook 1.33PPC with 1.5GB ram and latest OS.
