I can now create and edit Standard, Heads-Up and Shootout tournaments...but not completely.

I'm focusing on what the tournaments have in common first:
- Player Database association
- Chip Case
- Checklist

Each of the types of tournaments can be created, saved, loaded and edited.

Next I'm going to work on the league association (a lot of work in how that ties to the player database), then it's on to filling out the tournament capabilities (seating, roster, etc.)

Creating the heads-up and shootout tournaments is really making me think about things a different way. Those two types will be a challenge!

Well, I've really had to think outside the box.

In v2, there was one type of tournament. Easy.

Now with other types:
- There's not necessarily just one chip distribution. In a shootout, you may want MULTIPLE distributions!! Whee!!!
- Player tracking information is different for each type of tournament.
- In v2: One blinds schedule per tournament. In a heads-up or shootout, you may want more than one!! Whee!!!
- Seating. Easy for v2. More complicated for heads-up and shootout.
- Results: Simple for v2 standard tournaments. What about for shootouts? What about heads-up? What about heads-up where you have different rounds playing at the same time. ARG ARG ARG!!!

You get the idea. In the end, though, it will all result in a much more robust and supportable app. It's all making me focus on making the code more componentized so that it's even easier to change in the future.

What if, in a heads-up tournament, you want to change from single-elimination to double-elimination after the tournament has already started???

Then either the host of the tournament was the 1st one out, or else they should just plan better.

No doubt Doc.... HU & Shootouts offer up whole different cans of worms... I feel for you... and can give you a couple good references for the hair replacement treatments you'll likely need. Very Happy

Not to further complicate your life.... but....

We've run a couple HU tourneys in the past.... and may again.... Here's the format we use...

All prelims were single elimination

Semi-finals were double elimination. The two losers playing each other, loser getting 4th. The two winners played each other, winner got a bye to finals, loser played winner of the losers bracket for right to play the final, loser got 3rd.

Finals was a best of 3 series.

could it be as easy as a 'best of x matches' parameter? You could change that mid-tourney, and each match up could have it's own 'best of x matches' parameter.

We had 15 players.... the winner of the previous one got a bye to the 2nd round (so the table count would make sense)

Took about 8 hours.

You can always adjust the starting chipcount/blinds to make it last however long you want.

Clearly, planning and implementing the heads-up and shootout tournament possibilities is going to take a lot of thought.

I'm starting a new thread on heads-up tournaments so we can solve this together and make it as robust as possible.
