|

i run a 7-10 person weekly NLHE game that pays 2-3 places. there are always two players who attend every week, but there are probably about 20-25 total rotating players who generally make it every 2nd or 3rd game.
which formula--ideally based on revenue or place finishes and penalizing rebuys--would work best for a league ranking method? the one i'm currently using is more geared toward a monthly game where the same people play every time; in my game, the results from such a method unfairly skew the points toward the two people who attend every game even though they only cash every 2nd or 3rd game.
TIA, all. |

i switched over to avg. net revenue with a min. of two tourneys played, but that one's kind of off, too.
if someone comes and plays only twice, finishing last one time (stuck $20, let's say) and first the other time (net gain of $115, let's say), they still rank far ahead of people who consistently finish in the top 4 or so but who don't necessarily have as high avg. revenue.
there has to be a better way! |

It really is a cool method. Rewards those who keep coming (that's how I'm in 2nd), but someone who hasn't played yet could still leap to near the top of the pack with a win.
AND
Look at how Don bested Steve 3 tournaments in a row even though he placed below him because he didn't purchase the add-on. _________________ --

One word for the formula Doc,
BRILLIANT!
After using the wizard and figuring out how to do it, I applied it to my last season results to see how it would effect the way people ranked....and after liking the results (it made things alot easier than my current system....no more Excel!)....I will be tweaking it slightly (No rebuys or add-ons here) and borrowing it for this and future seasons. |

This is it, right?
Doc, or other geek types , do you think it would work just as well with dollar amounts like $2k buy-ins, and $26k prize pools? If not, what would you recommend to adjust it? |

I thought the question was rhetorical. Looks right. _________________ --

The question after the image, Doc. About the application of this method to my particular circumstance. Let me repeat it here:

Ah. Didn't see that.
I don't see any reason it wouldn't work.
You get 15 points for finishing 1st in a 100-player $10 tournament.
You get 500 points for finishing 1st in a 100-player $10,000 tournament.
That doesn't seem too bad. _________________ --

Doc's is a lot like mine except I put in a bonus for not buying a add-on........I'd do the same with rebuy's if I offered them......
Someone investing $25 in a game and finishing at or right behind as someone investing $50 should be rewarded for their quality play..... |

This ranking method divides by the players' expenses, so it already does penalize rebuys & addons. |

I must admit - over the weekend I got bold and decided to try out the League Ranking creation wizard tool thing-a-ma-bob, and I have to say...
ITS SUPPA-EASY!
Maybe it's beacuse I'm an engineer by trade, and use tools like this elsewhere. Maybe its 'cause I tool a logic class in HighSchool... I dunno, but Kudo's, Doc.
Max
BTW - I'm officially using Twin Cities' Underground's ranking method, and love it! It put me in first place for points... Love that ranking! One thing I have noticed, is that once you create your own method, and export it, it can't find it when you restart the program, and you have to import it again. Am I doing something wrong, or do I just have to wait for V3? _________________ Oh, Yeah! Check out the all new TheMiddleClassBlog.com for all of us that aren't exactly "High Rollers"! |

You can set a "default league ranking method" in the application preferences.
V3 will be much much easier...sorry to keep dangling that out there. _________________ --
