In the console design window if you click on enw component and pick on of the pre made components it gets added to components list. I can then madify that component. However I can not select visible button.

The visible column isn't something you can click on. It's just an indicator of whether or not your component is actually on the screen.

If you want to make your component visible, you need to increase the height and width and set its position.
