Add an id number attribute to each player tag.
Each of our players are identified by their name and member number. Right now we include the number in the name field... ex.:
JOHN DOE (487)
It would be nice to have this member number as a seperate identifying field. Don't know if this would be worth while to other subscribers or not... _________________ "Play Like The Pros Play"

I'll second this one... (as we hear Doc in the background muttering, "You would you ****)
Actually I'll even expand on it...
This could likely create a big headache but I'd also like to see the player first and last names be two separate fields.
As it is now I'm entering players' names last name first (Johnson, Brad) so I can just click on the column header to alphabetize the list.
Naturally, this means that the name appears that same way when scrolling in the console.
I'm thinking that if the player name was two separate columns then the app could read the name "first name first" for display in the console. _________________ - Dix

I've been thinking about the first/last name thing for a while. One of those things you don't think about when the app is just for you and your little 16 person tournament. Next thing you know, 100's of people around the world are using your app and, well, you know the story.
If it weren't for saved files this would be a simple change. The problem is that in the XML file you'll see a player's name littered throughout as references between things:
- In the player definition
- In a seat
- In the payout structure
- In the tournament history (which is used to reconstruct the sequence of events)
I'm going to do it, but I just need to figure out the best way. Here's what I'm thinking for when I do it:
- Add a "First Name" attribute to a player.
- Add a "Last Name" attribute to a player.
- Change the current "Name" attribute to be "Full Name". This will remain the field that's used in the data files to maintain data references.
- All GUI components (mostly tables) that have a "name" field will be modified to replace that field with the First Name and Last Name fields (in that order).
- The "Add Player" dialog will continue to take a full name and automatically divide it up for you...this is to keep new player entry easy.
- A lot of work needs to be put into making currently saved files loadable. In general, none of the current XML files (including the player DB) should need to be modified to support this. It HAS to be that way. _________________ --

If I can add my request to this thread...
I have 3 tournaments a week and most players have a players card with a barcoded player number......
I would love for the software to accept a player number in additon to a name for "create bought-in player", that way the players can scan their card and they're in.
The database in turn will know who they are.
We use these cards in a similar way for the players to scan in and out for our cash games. The players earn points for time played to qualify for a big tournament.
Thanks for your consideration..

Here's a thought which incorporates 5th St's "Player ID" idea... (which I like BTW & Murv could obviously use)
Change the current "name" attribute to "player ID". Does it really matter if a name or a number is used for data reference? (this depends on how you have it working internally naturally).
This could kill 2 birds with one stone if it's easier. The "add player" dialog could simply pop up with the next higher number in sequence by default of a count of the current players in the database. Which you could simply "OK" past or edit if you have another method... then move on to player first and last names. Of course allowing someone to edit the "ID number" means you should have a routine for checking for the occasional mistaken duplicate.
Having just a "player name" entry when entering a new player then having the app divide it up for you could be problematic when you run into names like Norma Jean Baxter and she doesn't hyphonate the first name. _________________ - Dix |
