I've been to Keen's forum, lots of great work on those pages.

I'm curious - having the felt so much higher than the race track, is it a pain to just push chips into the felt portion?

If the racetrack table is built with a standard 1/4" closed cell foam pad under the fabric it's not a big deal to push chips in...

Even if you still can't stand the 1/4" difference in height, you can go to home depot and get a 1/4" plywood or alternative sheeting to apply to the bottom of your racetrack.

The felt is higher relative to the racetrack than I had expected. And I tried inserting some scrap ply under the racetrack - but that opened up a lateral gap that made me even less happy. So yeah, you kinda have to ease the chips up the hump, but it's no big deal really.

And if the Doc would like to check out the Sin City league at statsgenie he'll see who is the winningest player at our tourneys. Stacking chips is fun.

I think the idea is that you are not supposed to be pushing you chips in to the center, you are supposed to be raking them to you. Therefore you need the slope to come towards you.

The table I'm working on, I'm using a 5/8" piece for the center so it will still be a bit higher than the racetrack, but only by 1/8". Of course, I'm still in the building process so I don't know how well this will turn out yet.

So I moved into a bigger place, and want to start hosting a game. I got a line on some Nexgen 8200 Bee chips for a really good price ($98 for 500, delivered). Really have a desire to build my own table but don't have the funds to purchase the tools necessary (decent jigsaw or router) and also pay for materials. Normally wouldn't be a big deal for $500 to do it all but my wife and I just had a baby AND bought this house. So things are tighter than normal.

So I'm considering getting one of the Kestell tables, but most likely going to have to just continue playing on occasion at the couple games I know of and hope to win some money to fund this little project. I usually play in very low money buy in games, $10 or so 8 - 10 person single table tournaments or a $10 buy in ring game at a friends house.

I want to get a good router (I subscribe to the idea that buying cheap tools is the same as throwing money away, I learned this from experience) and then build my own since I can also build other things as well, but the funds just aren't there right now.

I'd cut off my hand if I tried to build a table, so I bought one from PimpMyPoker.com. They are still building it, but here's their progress so far:

I just want a simple suited cloth playing field and a black rail. Nothing too fancy. I'm sure if I tried to build a racetrack table I'd screw it up.

I think a higher rail with some nice wood trim would be cool though.

Router is definately the way to go......I tried it both ways and the router took half the time and gave me a better product......
