I was looking at the various Ranking systems built in to TM. I noticed that Poker Stars only gives points to the first place winners of my tournaments (1-tablers). Is that the way it's supposed to work?
What I want is a system that doesn't take into account knock-outs, but does penalize players for missing tournaments. Johnson Brothers would do it for me, except it gives 1 point per dollar earned. My tourneys are generally played for $2,000 (no I'm not rich - different dollars), which creates an imbalance. So what I think I'd like is a Johnson Brothers (modified) that awards 1 point per $50. I think that would bring it more into line for my purposes.
Any chance of that, Doc? |

Doc, something I just noticed about Johnson Brothers - the explanation says:
Quote: | Algorithm
---------
A player's score for a tournament consists of 2 components
1. Player gets 1 point for each dollar of reveune, and
2. Player gets 10 points for each higher place in a
tournament.
Overall score is a total of all tournament scores. |
By "higher place", presumably, you mean worse.
Quote: | Examples
--------
Elvis finishes 10th in a 20 player tournament earns $10.
Elvis receives 120 points:
. 10 points for earning $10 in revenue, plus
. 110 points for his finish ((20 - 10 + 1) * 10). |
Why is the +1 in the equation? If Elvis finished ahead of 10 players, why shouldn't he get 100 points from that plus the 10 from his earn, for 110 total. Using this formula the last place player gets 10 points. Is this intended? Is it to reward showing up? |

You'd have to ask the Johnson Brothers about the reasoning behind the formula. I just know the facts...
Higher means higher. 1st is higher than 2nd.
Last place indeed gets 10 points. _________________ --

Ok it was me mis-reading the explanation - I read "10 points for each higher place" and took that to mean "10 points per other person who placed higher", which doesn't make sense. In fact it means "10 points for each higher place player achieves". Never mind. I'm an idiot.
How about my request though, for addition of a JB (modified) with a points:dollars ratio of 1:50. Is that something you'd consider? |
